The dinky Fiat 500 is set to be fitted with a two-cylinder engine with 57.4 mpg. It seems there is a trend amongst automakers, with an increase in smaller engines fitted into compact cars, such as the Fiat 500 to maximise efficiency and still keep C02 emissions at a minimum.
The new engine Fiat 500, when released this year will be one of the world’s most fuel efficient models in keeping with Fiats reputation of having the lowest amount of C02 emissions across their range of cars.
The new twin engine will use four valves per cylinder, taking the car back to its roots as micro cars were in post-war times throughout Europe. Bringing the past back up to date, the new engine will be thoroughly modern. With stop start technology within the car, the new Fiat 500 is punchy yet smooth- the perfect combination.
With top speeds of up to 107 mph and the ability to get up to 100 km/hr in 11 seconds, the new five speed TwinAir engine will provide results. Available at the end of the year, it seems that Fiat is proving less is now actually more?
