According to a new industry poll, Renault has made significant improvements to its dealerships. The result was taken from the Auto Express Driver Power 2010 Survey where Renault as a company had moved up 15 places in its rankings- tres fantastique for the French brand.
Other areas of improvement included technical knowledge, a helpful attitude and value for money which is good news for the car manufacturer as their aim is to instill a ‘culture of quality’ across their dealerships.
The survey has been particularly successful in highlighting the strong areas for the manufacturer, showing car and van sales for the quarter increasing by 37.7 per cent year-on-year.
I'd like to consider Ferrari as a scaled down version of God.

Festival time for Lotus!
The Classic Team Lotus Festival took place last Saturday to track the history of the famous car manufacturer with over 35 formula 1 cars on display from the past 52 years.
People from across the country turned up to see the cars on show which included the new Elise Sports car and the brand new Lotus Racing T127.
With star drivers such as Jarno Trulli available for question and answer sessions and the chance to win a drive in an Evora Sports vehicle alongside a Formula 1 driver the day was filled with positivity and a general fun feeling.
To round off the day, the Lotus T127 was driven off to the 500th Grand Prix and the noise it made was reportedly incredible and so unique. A good day had by all.

New 2011 Ford Fiesta + New USB = Fiesta Community
2011 is set to be an exciting year for car manufacturer Ford with the addition of a special USB drive with their Ford Fiesta.
The new Ford Fiesta will be equipped with a USB drive that will give a 19 minute long tour of the features of the car on the way home from the showroom. Pretty cool huh! When plugged into a computer, the USB drive will give the option for the user to install a Fiesta Community application allowing them to engage with Ford and other Ford users.
The community will also be a god send for tips and hints from other Ford users as well as a great forum to post your own comments. Social media is all around us in every shape or form and Ford is grasping its opportunities with both hands…

Mercedes Electric Dreams…

Mercedes have recently released details of its electric powered supercar the SLS AMG E-Cell, set to be available in the next couple of years.
With notable changes made to the cars exterior including a wider grille and a unique diffuser to increase the ability to reach high speeds. With LED lamps plus adaptions to its wheels, the new SLS AMG E-cell Mercedes is set to be every inch the superstar.
Drawing on the SLS AMG bodywork, the SLS AMG E-cell Mercedes car has increased suspension and a super-charged V8 engine to ensure maximum power output at any time. Inside the cabin there is luxurious detailed trim and high tech equipment such as multimedia touch screen controls as well as navigation functions that would rival most.
With its green recipe of reduced fuel consumption and lowered emissions, this electric-powered beauty will be on a whole new mission by 2013. I can’t wait to see the new SLS AMG E-cell do its thing but for the meantime, a picture will have to do.

Mischa barton and her conked out Cadillac...

Mischa barton seems to have spent $15000 on a conked out vintage Cadillac car. Whoops. Her prized possession has broken down three times in the last month, with its initial break down a whopping three minutes after she purcahsed it!!
Time to get car shopping.....
Bestival here I come!

I cannot quite contain my excitement for Bestival this year. With my tent packed up and my wellies all ready, I am grinning from ear to ear. Ok, so maybe slightly premature seeing as it is 3 months away, but I can’t see the harm in preparing myself. After all, I live my life tending to find that the build-up is so much more exciting than the actual event, so forgive me if I enjoy myself.
So I have decided to drive my Ford down there, as I am one of four of us going and I am the only one to be sensible the night before we leave! I drive a tiny Ford Ka, so with three others in tow, I am going to have to invest in some accessories for the car to ensure I can manage all of us plus the tent, a mountain of sleeping bags and all of our necessities. Yeah, I know what you are thinking, accessories schmaccessories, but there is no excuse for us not to look good, festival or no festival.
I have had a look online for some Ford parts and found an online Ford accessories site that stocks a Ford roof rail perfect for my car. I have also invested in some Ford rubber floor mats for the car in case the weather lives up to its reputation and buckets down. Muddy wellies are not going to look very good in my cute Ford Ka now are they!
Sensible part over with, let’s get drunk.

Women and Skoda- A new kind of relationship…
Following on from my previous article regarding women and motors, I have stumbled across another gem from car manufacturer Skoda. Skoda is tapping into women’s needs and the possibility to potentially spend quite large amounts.
Skoda has been holding focus groups with women of various ages to find out what it is that makes them tick. Think ‘What women Want’ circa Mel Gibson, only with cars, and a less A-List Budget!
Skoda is huge in Prague, with a different Skoda on every corner and so a group of women journalists were invited to discuss Skoda as a brand, what works, what doesn’t work as much and collect some research to find the ideal spec for a Skoda car. After many hours of discussion, it was found that the dream car was a sporty coupe- not particularly a family car?
With this is mind however, after hours of research, women were said to want space, cleanliness and safety, with an all-round light feeling to the cabin. A second home, a friend and a sanctuary were words used to describe the ideal dream car.
It will never be possible to create a car that suits everyone, but Skoda aim to design the features that can enable the driver to shape their car and ensure that every box is ticked for them.
I think it all boils down to the fact that car manufacturers are starting to realise the opportunities that women hold within the car industry and the potential money that we are willing to spend… And all of this to come from a one-time failing car manufacturer with a bad image- about time too!

Car Manufacturers make friends with women…
It is a common joke that women are bad drivers. BMW have hones in on this with their fantastically funny commercial for the Mercedes Benz E Class Saloon.
The tone of the commercial is that women are pretty dumb, with a woman attempting to buy a fast food meal from a library and when reminded of this she just lowers her voice! Check out the Mercedes commercial here, I must admit it did make me smile! However, the tag line of the commercial was 'With Beauty you need brains' so, some good has come out of it!
It got me thinking of car manufacturers that appealed to women and came up with a little list of my own:
Kia
Mini
Volvo
But it isn’t always about strength in numbers with the automotive industry. The majority of the time, a car (say the VW beetle) has a clear (all be it small) following rather than a car such as the Ferrari that had no definitive demographic audience.

Volkswagen supports Football...
VW is calling on their fans to upload videos showing their passion for the game via their VW Facebook page.
For entering their VW themed video they will win the chance to appear in a national TV spot and with VW’s wide range of fans, there is a VW for everyone! VW have even gone as far as to say that they are ‘the official car of soccer fans.’

Groovy Baby Yeah……

The infamous Shaguar Jaguar E-Type from the Austin Powers films is up for grabs at a mere £40,000.
With body work amounting to over 400 hours, with a union jack exterior and blue and red custom made interior it truly is groovy baby!
Under its flamboyant layers, the Jaguar E-Type Roadster remains with only 4000 miles on its clock and original engine and radio in place and is in full shagadellic working order!
The Budget and what it means to motorists…
Chancellor George Osborne's budget was revealed today that has been described (by himself) as extremely ‘fair’ and ‘progressive’ for the country.
VAT is set to rise to 20% which will have quite an impact on motorists across the country. This will take effect on new and used car showrooms as well as at the petrol pumps; however there was no increase in fuel duty prices, since Alistair Darling’s suggestions which are still planned to go ahead.

2011 Ford Explorer- Have you seen it?

The all-new 2011 Ford model, the Ford Explorer is yet to be unveiled but it is reported that it is heavily influenced by the American Ford Explorer model.
With improved fuel economy, the 2011 Ford Explorer will have a V6 EcoBoost motor, doing its bit for the environment.
It is rumoured that Ford will use Facebook to reveal the new Ford Explorer, which is hoped to create a massive amount of publicity.
Renault set to become first sponsor of the Metro I-Pad App...
The free newspaper in London the Metro is set to launch its first FREE I-Pad application this week and Renault one of the top car manufacturers is set to come on board as the first sponsor!
The reportedly five figure deal will mean exclusive advertising space within the application for the I-Pad in the form of banners and adverts within the frame- an opportunity to reach out to millions through this medium.
The new Renault Wind Roadster will be its main focus of advertising, which will have mass appeal with the young, hip audience that the Metro will reach every day. This focus on the demographic has been particularly apparent the past year with Renault making a special effort to connect with its younger audience. This was achieved through its use of social media networking site Face Book to promote the Renault Twingo.

The fantastically priced Chevrolet!!
I recently looked at the Chevrolet Aveo hatchback at my nearest Chevrolet car dealership and I was pleasantly surprised.
The supermini although compact was surprisingly spacious with a gorgeous interior layout and trim. A particularly bright looking car, the Chevrolet Aveo felt both comfortable and reliable. The perfect combination for my all be it short but regular drives I would be making.
With a good amount of space in the back of the Aveo, it would be perfect for my silly amounts of shoes and gym gear which I feel the need to take everywhere with me!! The Aveo also came at a ridiculously good price, with the fantastic Chevrolet offer that the car dealership had on!
I haven’t signed my name on the paperwork just yet, but believe me I am very tempted and this quest of mine for a new car is starting to drag a little….

Button and Hamilton attempt to build car for Vodafone!

Vodaphone have launched a new campaign featuring Button and Hamilton trying to build their own car without any help from their Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team of engineers.
In the campaign, the two Formula One drivers use their phones to call the engineers and take photographs of the parts so that they can piece everything together.
With a tag line of ‘Vodafone McLaren Mercedes drivers depend on their team; their team depends on our network’ you know that this will be a sure fire hit.

Pussycat Doll Star takes tips from Lewis….
It has been reported that Lewis Hamilton considers girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger’s driving skills more of a scare than competing in any Formula One race!
Nicole of the Pussycat Dolls, who is a regular track side, cheering on her man, is a big fan of the formula one racing, but it appears from Lewis the feelings are not reciprocated. He has said that he gets extremely nervous when Nicole is behind the wheel claiming that she ‘drives with her knees!’
In a recent interview with a famous lads magazine, Nicole let slip that she and Lewis would have been arrested if caught whilst driving in Switzerland considering the speeds they were travelling at!! Tut Tut.
Still… I wouldn’t mind a ride with Lewis! In the car obviously!!

Skoda Teams up with Channel 5...
Channel five has never really had it easy. Up against giants such as ITV and the BBC, it has had to work hard to establish itself.
The Television Awards have always been ruled by the Eastenders and Coronation Streets of the TV world, with little input from Family Affairs or Home Away. Some may say it has never had a fair shot at the crown.
Its recent partnership with the car brand Skoda may be about to change all that. The collaboration has certainly raised eyebrows, with many questioning whether the car brand is Channel 5's equivalent in the car industry. Skoda is a car brand that has had its fair share of criticism, with image problems throughout the years a lot like Channel 5, so will this collaboration mean double the problem or an increase in popularity?
Skoda is set to be sponsoring the crime dramas on Channel 5 such as the CSI Series which has been particularly popular for the Channel, becoming one of its biggest shows. The seven figure deal is certainly going to be big for both Five and Skoda and I for one cannot wait to see how they tackle their advertising on the commercial breaks! What was that Skoda joke again?...

The perfect Festival car?

The new Suzuki Swift is available at a very competitive price, making owning the car a lot more within your reach.
The chance of owning a brand new car from passing your test these days is pretty slim with crazy prices on the newer models, but the new Suzuki swift is different. With fantastic handling and great steering, the Swift is a nippy little car that is fun to drive and more importantly affordable.
It is reported that the car has become a firm favourite with degree students who are literally running from the test centres into a brand new Suzuki Swift, with a bit of a cult following developing. With its tempting price tag and its unusual amount of space inside the car, it is the perfect festival car for students all over the country. With my Glastonbury trip fast approaching, what better form of transport!!
For a run-around car, the Suzuki Swift is your ideal choice. With air conditioning, a CD player and electric windows, I am more than tempted… In fact, test drive is being booked this week. Yessss!

Still want to be on Team Edward??
Robert Pattinson, of Twilight fame was recently involved in a fiery incident cruising along in his BMW on the Pacific Coast Highway. His vintage car caught on fire whilst driving with flames rising from the dashboard- bizarrely, the driver continued to drive until the flames had died down?
He was quoted as saying “The fire went out and I kind of drove it around to see it was OK. I called my dad and said, 'You think I should bring it to a mechanic? It went on fire earlier on.' My first thought would be yes Edward- you do not have your supernatural powers now!
Pattinson also claimed to be pretty naive behind the wheel of his BMW car, with his test being taken in a small town completed maybe a little quicker than it should have! It took me four times to pass my test and I still feel rather unsure behind the wheel 5 years on! I’m sure a lot of girls wouldn’t mind his uncertainty behind the wheel being such a heart-throb. I must say though- I’m more Team Jacob but could be persuaded...

Fancy a cheeky pocket rocket?

To all the women out there that thrive on that bit of naughtiness in their lives read on…
Fiat is launching the Abarth Punto Evo and the Abarth 500C and the first set of pictures have been released to coincide with its release. Looking sexy and slick in a hot pillar box red, the new car is the perfect match to your lippy.
Complete with a turbocharged 1.4 litre engine, the car can reach 0-100 in 8.1 seconds, what a speed! Particularly fuel efficient, the ‘pocket rocket’ was debuted at the Geneva Motor Show this year under a fab new advertising campaign that will be predominantly digital in its form.
With a focus on its bold colour and style, the naughty little car is sure to be a massive hit!
Katy Perry kissed a VW Jetta and she liked it...

This week saw stunning pop singer Katy Perry singing on top of a VW car in Times Square. The auto collaboration was in aid of the new 2011 Jetta, the updated and more compact version of the Sedan.
Stood on top of the shiny new VW Jetta, was Katy Perry clad in PVC belting out her top ten hits including I kissed a Girl, which set the crowds pulses raising no doubt.
The worldwide brand, has recently struggled to break through the US car market to new buyers, where other top name brand have been cruising past gaining high recognition. So, Times Square was the perfect setting for the unveiling of the 2011 model.
Katy Perry appeals to a mass audience, from young teenage admirer’s right through to their impressionable fathers, so the hope for VW is to go mainstream and reach an even larger audience by her endorsement.
The new VW Jetta looks set for big things now not only in the UK but across the pond in America. I wonder if the car will end up waking up in Vegas with its name in lights! Waking up in Vegas- Get it? Never mind...

If it's good enough for Justin Timberlake?
The new Audi A1 is proof that good things really do come in small packages! It has the hearty build of a 4x4 mixed with the compact size of a Mini with its own Audi goodness sprinkled on top. Dubbed as the ‘next big thing’ and with superstar Justin Timberlake as its ambassador, the Audi A1 really has a big reputation to live up to.
The new Audi A1 has already drawn a large amount of interest already off the back of its publicity and advertising with a high amount of people making enquiries pre-release of the model. Available in both Petrol and Diesel engine, the A1 packs a mean punch and is certainly results driven in its performance. With different trim levels available both inside and out, you are given the opportunity to personalise your Audi to really make it your own.
The design, although similar to that of the Mini One, does well at retaining its Audi trademark look and feel, with its grille on the front of the car and its powerful sloping C-pillar. Some may even say it takes elements of the Audi Q5 as inspiration. Inside the cabin, the Audi A1 is spacious and contains a number of storage compartments in the form of door pockets, cup holders and a healthy sized glove box.
Both comfortable and practical enough for a family, there is plenty of extra legroom in the rear of the car perfect for longer journeys and a plethora of high tech equipment ensuring that your journeys are anything but boring. The Audi A1 manages to be flexible yet extremely handsome at the same time. It is a car for a grown up, but not just any grown up as Justin Timberlake proves… A very handsome grown up.

The Telegraph brushes up on their Fashion knowledge…
The Telegraph has taken on the challenge of re-vamping their Fashion website in a bid to compete with huge fashion brands such as Vogue and Glamour.
The idea is to take on offline giants through an online media channel and develop their digital involvement in the fashion industry. Included in the re-vamp will be an e-commerce section allowing the viewing of fashion advertisements and blogs. There will be a large emphasis on social media and how it can help engage the customer with its brand.
The target demographic will be a younger clientele to the standard readers of the Telegraph newspaper/supplements which will technically mean a whole new re-brand. The content will be free to access by customers, much like many of the online versions of newspapers/magazines, with much of its revenue made from advertising within the site from other brands such as high street chains wanting to display their look books and latest collections. This should draw sponsorships with big name Department stores such as Debenhams it is hoped.
The new website is set to be unveiled during London fashion Week in September this year, which will mean a massive amount of exposure and interest can be gained in everything that it has to offer. At present, the site draws in around 750,000 unique users a month, which is down to both great advertising and great marketing.
If the website really takes off, it could open up the newspaper to such a larger audience through its use of featured blogging, Twitter and Facebook. It seems that Social media really is the way forward for your brand.

If the website really takes off, it could open up the newspaper to such a larger audience through its use of featured blogging, Twitter and Facebook. It seems that Social media really is the way forward for your brand.
KFC drop the waffle and serve up the nation’s favourites at Breakfast!

Huge food retailer KFC has had to re-think their marketing techniques for their breakfast menu which has proved rather unsuccessful of late. The introduction of their Breakfast menu in 2008 which included foods such as wraps, French toast and waffles available from 6am- 10.30am did not quite kick off as much as they expected it to. The menu shunned the traditional breakfast options of bacon rolls and eggs for a more sophisticated pallet that was of epic proportion. The mission statement behind the menu was to produce a great tasting breakfast that kept you filled up until lunchtime, but unfortunately this meant that the portions were more about the quantity and less about the quality.
This is all set to change with the introduction of their new breakfast mantra. The store is set to open from 7.30sm now, not as early and bring back the classic brekkie dishes such as bacon, sausage and eggs. The food is to be of a higher standard of quality, focusing on its taste and ingredients at a larger scale than previously. The menu is to be trialed in certain stores across London, Wales and Scotland to gage a response form the public as to whether they feel it successful or not.
The marketing will also undergo a massive overhaul with leafleting between stores and outdoor advertising taking a lead role. In London, the KFC brand will even take to the underground and London buses with their logo and ideas placed onto travel card holders. Considering one billion passengers a year travel on the underground, exposure will be of epic proportions!
The Wildcat is sedated…

The new Wildcat 300STR, V8 powered off-roader has been unleashed from the wild, but has received a heavy dosing of medication to make it road worthy.
The car has had to be tamed before its release on the public due to its extra powerful build, including an army like spec of four wheel drive, heavy duty suspension and a fully welded steel chassis. With inspiration drawn from its brother vehicles, both of which compete in the Dakar Rally- an off-road vehicle race, organised by the Amaury Sport Organisation.
With a V8 engine that can take you from 0-62 mph in 5.8 seconds, the Wildcat 300STR is scary! Richard Hammond has even been reduced to a whisper after witnessing just what the car is capable of! Drivers beware, this cat is out on the prowl and it means business! Rwarrrh!
Scrappage a Success!!
It has been noted that 9 in ten scrappage sales were additional sales that did not pull forward further sales. Less than 10% of scrappage scheme buyers were planning to buy a new car in the next few years, so the Government led campaign curbed the negative idea that the scheme would not encourage new sales, but merely bring sales forward to 2010.
It turns out that most scrappage scheme buyers would have more than likely purchased a used car if the scheme had not been in place, so it really did mean that the Government could remove the older vehicles from the road and replace with shiny new models. I believe that the Scrappage Scheme worked as a great economic stimulus for the country in times of economic struggles. Whilst I was in Australia they also did something like this, where anybody who had filed a tax return in the year of 2007-2008 received a cash stimulus to encourage people to put money back into the economy and give it the boost that it needed.
Now that the scheme has unfortunately ended, we are left with the dull prospect of less demand for a new car and an increase in interest in the used car supermarket, thus undoing the work previously done by the Government backed Scrappage system. One Firm mentioned their concern for the recovery of the economy after this scheme has ended, saying ‘both new and used car markets are going to emerge from recession slower than the mid-90s.’ The withdrawal of this scheme has also left many new car Dealerships with the task of creating fresh and exciting campaigns to try and steer people in the direction of a new car as opposed to buying from a used car Dealership.
Let’s hope that the new Coalition government listen up and provide the country with what we need to make not only the environment but our wallets as light as possible!

Steven Gerrard already on top of the World Cup!
England played on Saturday and finished with an all-round disappointing score of 1-1. Although not a winning match, Steven Gerrard has been named top of a list of players in England’s World Cup Squad who motorists would most like to change their tyre.
The result displayed a healthy mixture of love and hate, with motorists citing Gerrard as the one who would most be able to change the tyre against 10% of others who stated they would like to see Gerrard work hard as they were not a big fan of his!
Stevie G was closely followed by Rooney and Lampard with Stephen Warnock receiving 0% of the votes. I am surprised Ashley Cole did not come out on top amidst all of the drama that has surrounded him of late. The survey was taken out by a Tyre company who no doubt will reap the benefits of this kind of market research.

Can you make Social Media w££rk for you?
Ford Motors have really made Social Media work for them through their use of Twitter/ You Tube and various other social networking sights and it seems that other motoring companies are jumping on this bandwagon, Mazda being one of them.
Through the use of Online Forums, Mazda have managed to raise their profile on the net and really benefit financially from its effects. By engaging with their customers through this online medium, it has meant that relationships have been built and trust has been created in the brand. The Forum allows for discussions between customers and the client, with FAQ’s and requests for more information being extremely popular.
With various staff working on the project, such as Technicians, customers have also been directed to their online parts company encouraging sales for not only new models but servicing and repair work. It seems that this type of advertising and marketing really can work for your company- If you use it correctly. I think that the key is creating a relationship with the customer very quickly and not coming across as too pushy or sales-driven; the customer wants to build trust with the client before they are happy enough to buy. After all, who wants to buy from someone who can’t get rid of it quick enough?

Can Social Media sell the All New Ford Fiesta?
Ford Motors are out on top. Not only have they survived the automotive recession, they have come out of it named as one of the three top players. Alongside this victory, they are cruising ahead with their web work, reaching out to customers through the use of Social media outlets such as Twitter, Facebook and blogging.
The use of such social networking channels has proved extremely successful and by far the most ambitious campaign to date has been the ‘Ford Fiesta Movement.’ The campaign created to promote the Ford Fiesta included 100 ‘social agents’ being given the new vehicle and asking them to endorse the car through their Twitter, Facebook and Blog accounts. The more videos, clips, sound bites etc. the better and the aim of the game is for each of the Ford Fiesta agents to not spend a penny on traditional advertising.
Six months on from the campaigns creation, Ford’s social experiment has received a huge amount of publicity with stats including 4.3 million You Tube views and 3 million Twitter impressions to date. The figures denote a keen interest in the new car, with around 50,000 requests for more information on the new Ford Fiesta. I guess the proof is in the pudding, the pudding being the sales numbers, and only Ford will really know just how well the campaign does.
How successful do you think this form of advertising is?

Kate Moss and her bevvie of Beauties....

Kate Moss has a penchant for the Rock n Roll Lifestyle. Much like myself, this also spills over to her taste in cars. Steering away from the modern, suped up numbers, she favours a Vintage Classic. I heart the Blue MG Midget. Dreamy.
Want to ride like Kylie?

Kylie Minogue is currently selling her Mercedes SLK230 which both herself and Danii Minogue have parked their rear’s on.
Although priced around 4 or 5K more than a normal Mercedes SLK Class, this is not too much to experience the driving pleasure of Kylie Minogue the Pop icon.
I wonder if she wore the infamous gold hot pants in the car?

Capture your moment for the Alfa Romeo Anniversary!

To help celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Alfa Romeo car, the car manufacturer has encouraged people to upload their favourite snaps of the car onto thier Alfa Romeo online site. The pictures will make up a mosaic picture of the new Giulietta model, due for release this summer.
The car brand wants people to be as creative as they can, uploading photos from the past and present telling their own stories of the Alfa Romeo car. Already, over 1000 images have been uploaded.
Images can be uploaded until the 5th July, with images uploaded before June 18th being entered into a Prize Draw to win tickets to Goodwood Speed Festival! I don’t personally have an Alfa Romeo model or know anyone that has one, but I know that if I did I could have a lot of fun with this!
Mazda MX-5 scoops Best Sports car in the UK Award
The 2010 JD Power Awards took place this week in Dartford, where over 17,000 people in the UK took part in the satisfaction Survey.
The Mazda MX-5 took the crown of Best Sports Car, gaining top marks for appearance, quality and performance. With a total of 82.3% satisfaction rate, it cleaned up against other car manufacturers such as Mercedes and Audi and gained a ‘best-in-class’ honour!
Not a stranger to awards, the Mazda MX-5 has previously achieved recognition at the prestigious awards ceremony proving that customers are genuinely happy with the model and its ability to provide reliability with good looks and performance. The car is currently available as a soft top and a coupe both with competitive price tags and a highly rated drive and with its success around the globe; it is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
A few of my friends and colleagues drive the car and all of them love the car, with no complaints to be heard. Although slightly out of my price range brand new, I have had a search online at a few online car supermarkets and found a number of used Mazda MX-5 convertibles at really reasonable prices!

Ford teams up with HOT band Cobra Starship in NYC...
Talking of musical collaborations with car brands, yesterday in NYC saw the joining of forces between the band Cobra Starship and Ford.
Ford Fiesta hosted the ‘Fiesta Funnel Rooftop Event’ where the unashamedly cool indie-rock band Cobra Starship played live for the web streamed event. The event was streamed via USTREAM, the program that allows you broadcast just about anything from an I- phone, mobile or computer in minutes. This allowed all of Ford Fiesta’s followers to join in on the action and enjoy the entertainment completely for free.
It seems that Car makers are really tuning into what makes people tick- the collaboration with such a well known and loved musical act will really promote the NEW Ford Fiesta model and encourage the sales of the product!

Toyota The Musical!
A musical workshop in Minneapolis has created a new musical theatre experience called “Toyota! The Runaway Musical Hit!” promising to provide the soundtrack to your drive this summer.
The show aims to demonstrate the effect a Toyota car can have on its owner and how the car can create a life of its own? With whimsical numbers such as one memorable song regarding a Toyota Prius set to the tune of Speedway’s "Can't fight this Feeling Anymore". With lyrics such as; “And I can’t stop this Prius anymore. I forgotten what I started stopping for” ensures that you will be entertained...

Chevrolet team up with The Mystery Jets in Brighton
The hottest music, fashion and design artists teamed up last week at the Chevrolet Spark Unscheduled Tour held at Horatio’s bar at the end of Brighton Pier.
One of the hippest bands around, fresh from their tour with the Arctic Monkeys the Mystery jets played the impromptu gig showcasing new tracks from their eagerly anticipated album Serotonin set for release next month.
Light installations from inspirational designers Hans Lo and Kate Moross shone brightly coloured flecks onto the band during the set, illuminating the bar. Chevrolet created this live design experience to entertain 5 cities around the UK that would not usually be exposed to a ‘pop up’ event such as this again, with one gig played in a multi-story car park in Liverpool! Now that is impromptu!
Chevrolet currently have a number of new cars on the market such as the Chevrolet Spark which is enjoying a wave of success at Chevrolet car dealerships across the country, so a live event such as this will promote the brand and create a large amount of exposure for its new range of vehicle’s. I think they are onto a winner!

A Pink Fiat 500 fit for Barbie...

The car maker Fiat has teamed up with Mattel to create the all new Fiat 500 Barbie model.
The car will be given to Barbie on her 15th birthday celebrations in Milan’s fashion district and for the girl who has everything; the new Fiat 500 is the perfect choice.
The freshly designed Fiat 500 model has been made-over to befit the princess like doll, with lashings of charm and fashionable features. The car has nail varnish like pink paintwork with plush, soft on the skin interior to match and a glove box that is decked out with a vanity mirror and a range of lip glosses for whenever you need a pit stop! The car has been ‘blinged’ up to the max, with diamante jewelling on the interior trim and on the hubcaps as well as the Barbie silhouette featured on the pillars.
The model has been designed to appeal to the confident girl that feels no need to prove anything and is beautiful inside and out. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as pink is not really my colour.
For those of us that do not wish to own the Fiat 500 car but wouldn’t mind driving around in it, I guess the obvious option is to lease one. I know a lot of car leasing dealerships around Kent and Sussex provide this service, with quite reasonable price ranges to boot. The Fiat 500 would be a nippy little car to drive around, but don’t think I will be choosing pink as my colour scheme just yet!
I guess no amount of money can buy class?
Alex Curran for Hyundai ahead of the World Cup!

With the World Cup around the corner it is not only the football players gaining maximum exposure. The affectionately termed Wags are also enjoying the limelight in the run up to the first match, with A Wag’s Come Dine with me special and a football shirt campaign featuring a plethora of the football beauties. Football advertising is everywhere at the moment- on your TV, in your magazines and newspapers and now on your car?
The England captain Steven Gerrard’s wife Alex Curran has been snapped up by car make Hyundai to promote the World Cup alongside its range of cars. As the official sponsor of the World Cup 2010, Hyundai are at the forefront of publicity so to include one of its long reigning wags in a campaign is even more of a £££ maker! The campaign sees Alex washing the Hyundai car in nothing but a pair of skimpy shorts and off the shoulder top, teamed with sky high (very coveted) Louboutins, reflecting the kind of lifestyle that she leads…. But obviously she doesn’t actually wash her car in real life; she would have someone to do that for her- I digress. Point is, the advertisement is to promote a competition to experience her lifestyle for a weekend and watch the football as she will back in the UK- not a bad price at all, considering the amount of wannabe wags out there dying to date a footballer. I can’t help but think though that Steven is not part of this particular bargain!
The competition is only open up to the first match on Saturday the 12th and the package offers a whole list of Wag like activities you can partake in, to make the ultimate luxurious weekend. With such a massive following, Alex Curran already has her own empire of clothing ranges, perfume, magazine columns and websites. She is a very valuable tool for the Hyundai make. Think of the boost in sales this could have? Incredible.
Check out the Ad, would this make you buy a Hyundai?

My Celebrity KAr for the day...

Kim Kardashian and her custom made Range Rover. Not sure I am a fan of the colour scheme, white and pink screa,s tacky, but to be able to afford this is pretty astonishing. Well done Kimmy.
Coca-Cola Rocket car!
I am a big fan of Coca-Cola, especially on an evening when I get in from work, so could not believe it today when I saw a clip of what happens when Mentos and Coca-Cola are mixed together. The two when mixed together create a mini explosion of frothy goodness that quite frankly I would not want in my stomach! Eeak!
Have a look at the Coca-Cola Rocket video and decide for yourself whether Coca-Cola is still your tipple?

Make room in the mantelpiece for VW!!
The 2010 World Car of the year award has been awarded to Volkswagen and its Polo model. Hoorah! Placed within 29 other automotive makes, the VW Polo topped the poll with the top auto bloggers around the world to win the title.
Judged on a number of categories including safety and value for money, the VW Polo ticked every box and with the success of the VW Golf last year, Volkswagen as a brand is enjoying a very successful ride. Over 200,000 people across the globe placed an order for the new VW Polo car and have obviously been very satisfied with their purchases, with the award speaking for itself!
Aside from this award, Volkswagen has also scooped up the 2010 World Green Car of the Year award, for its BlueMotion brand with cars including the VW Passat and the VW Golf both two of the most fuel efficient models on the market at present. Big claps to VW and their award winning cars!!

Audi at Le Mans 2010...
The Le Mans 24 hours does not need an introduction. The respected race is all about endurance and the need to be the last one standing and Audi have won 8 times out of the last 10 years- quite an achievement.
The race takes place this coming weekend over the 12th and 13th of June and the Audi R15 car will be representing the car brand, hopefully taking them into first place and claiming back their winning throne. After the 2009 race, Audi was able to create a wish list of modifications and changes to be made before this year’s race and they seem to have been able to make most of these changes, including changes to efficiency and reliability on the car.
The Audi R15 is unfortunately not a car I will be able to drive, but there is theAudi R8 which was inspired by the race car, fully equipped with a V8 engine and a speed of 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds which is currently in Audi showrooms across the country.
I am keen to get involved and monitor how Audi gets on and fortunately; I can keep up to date on my I-phone, by downloading the application ‘Evo’s guide to Audi at Le Mans.’ There seems to be an app for everything these days!

Volvo- It’s a woman's thing...

There is a new campaign out for Volvo targeted towards women and their shopping habits. It focuses on the decisions women have to make in everyday life- Kitten or killer heels? Cross over or clutch bag? Linen or Leather top? You get my drift… Being a woman can be hard with the amount of strenuous decisions we have to make, so Volvo is trying to make life easier for us.
They have created a car that combines elements from both the convertible model and the coupe model, making it one less decision for us to make. Phew. The new car is the Volvo C70, with a hard top coupe style roof and open wide convertible roof all in one, ensuring you get the best of both worlds. With the ability to fully design the car of your dreams, from the interior to the exterior, with even the alloys changeable at your request, it truly caters for the woman’s woman, the girl that likes to co-ordinate down to her nail polish.
The Volvo C70, available to test drive now, looks absolutely stunning in the showroom widow that is conveniently en route home every day!! Not sure if this is a good thing however, as my boyfriend may start to worry about my new found connection with a car!
Have you been naughty yet?
The new Volvo V60 is a delightful mix of comfort, style and sportiness with added punch. Promoted as the ‘naughty’ Volvo, meaning the car is naughty but nice, the V60 is a very good looking model with creative inspiration from the coupe and design drawn from the Aston Martin.
The car holds up to four people, with a spacious interior and large boot- perfect for extra shopping! It also has luxurious extras such as satnav upgrades and with air conditioning and high tech sound systems as standard; it really does cater for every need.
With a powerful and snappy turbo engine, the car performs well with a six speed manual gearbox for both petrol and diesel options. The car does its bit for the environment, managing to stay as green as possible, emitting 139g/km of CO2 emissions, which for this type of car is pretty good performance.
It has been dubbed as the car that ‘everyone wants’ and I for one would really like to see what all the fuss is about. I will eagerly await its release!!

Fiat shows off new model...
The new Fiat hybrid powertrain has been created and can now be used in the smaller models such as the Fiat 500 and the Fiat Punto. The hybrid powertrain is to work in conjunction with dual-clutch transmission, ensuring that less CO2 emissions are released. The aim is to maintain 80 grams per kilometre for each of the smaller vehicles.
I was really surprised to see this as I always thought that a smaller car would not be as technologically advanced, especially in its ‘green’ ratings, but how I have been wrong! It just goes to show that even though it is a smaller car, it can be just as marvellous as a larger, pricier model- there is hope for me yet!
I can’t get too giddy just yet though, as a release date has not yet been confirmed and when it will be exported to the UK, but fingers crossed it comes soon, I am raring to test drive this new Fiat Punto ASAP!!

Ford out of Top!!
I was reading today about how May has seen a big jump in its figures for new cars sold compared to last year’s results, with a 13.5% increase!! The Ford Focus topped the list, closely followed by the Ford Fiesta in third place; leaving the Ford car manufacturer suitably pleased with themselves I am sure!
After the stop of the scrappage scheme, you would have expected sales to significantly drop around this time, and I think overall the figures for the year will speak for itself, but for may at least, Ford are out on top, highlighting the weaknesses in last year’s automotive industry.
What about my Ford KA though- Did they miss it off the list?

Katie Price in motoring mess!!

The glamour model Jordan, AKA Katie Price has been caught speeding nearby her house in Essex and this is now the third motoring offence in the past 6 months. The 32 year old model has previously been caught on her mobile when towing a horse box in West Sussex and also breaking a speed limit on the M23 whilst using her horse box, so it’s bad times all round for the glamour girl!
If convicted for this third offence she could potentially lose her license for 6 months in total, which is a very long time! I guess that being a celebrity means that you do not need to worry about driving as you can be driven around, but still! Come on Katie, get clued up on your motoring Laws. Pronto!
Van needed ASAP!
My boyfriend and I are obviously in the middle of our moving process to a new build apartment nearby to our local town and it will take us roughly about ten minutes to drive to it from where we are now.
We have a lot of things to move in to the apartment which we have managed to collect along the way from friends and relatives so we have been extremely lucky! The only problem we have is that we need something quite substantial to enable us to move our things from A to B and this we do not have & so the new van shopping begins.
My boyfriend has also just secured a new job working with a surveying company and he could really benefit from a van to help him with his tools etc so not only would this be great for moving around but essentially an investment for when he starts up his own company. Or so I hope...
I have researched on the web new and used vans in the Kent area and I have located an ideal van dealership in Essex so I have plenty to get on with this weekend trying to locate the van that is just right for us. So far (and bear in mind my van knowledge is pretty sparse) I have seen a used Ford Transit Van which is a nice size and also a new Citroen Relay van, but I feel this is a little too large for us. We have to think about parking around our apartment which is not masses and with my Ford Ka already needing pride of place we are very limited. Hmmm. Lots to think about, another fun filled weekend ahead then!
We have a lot of things to move in to the apartment which we have managed to collect along the way from friends and relatives so we have been extremely lucky! The only problem we have is that we need something quite substantial to enable us to move our things from A to B and this we do not have & so the new van shopping begins.

AA- Apps for your Audi
Audi will now be offering you the option of downloading applications for your car before it has even left the showroom. Like the apple I-phone, features like heated seats can be built into the car when downloaded by the customer.
An extension of this also means that your car can even be programmed to act like your personal assistant dictating your schedule throughout the week and leading you on the best route to get there dependent on the time of day and traffic etc. People expect high end luxury when they buy such a model, with some people wanting as much function as their home provides, with the addition of Wi-Fi and seats that can completely move around to suit you’re every need.
For new Audi cars, advanced technology is key and introducing an application style ordering process is an extension of this. Whatever will they think of next!

Arguing in your car worse than smoking?

Now....this is a touchy one I think. Road rage or smoking- Which is worse?
I would actually go with arguing with a spouse/ parent etc, judging on past experiences. A recent poll taken by Auto glass has proved that arguing made up 31% of the biggest distractions, closely followed by lighting a cigarette with 29%, not a massive difference I know, but a difference none the less.
It also showed that the biggest offenders were in the over 50’s group whish surprised me that is for sure, my Mum has only just managed the art of texting! It also showed that men were twice as likely to be distracted by somebody that takes their fancy than women (35% compared with 13%). I am not entirely convinced with this, if Jason Statham were to be crossing my path I would struggle not to veer off the road!
Porsche making you weak at the knees?
The ADAC GT Masters took place over the weekend and the Porsche 911 GT3 cup caused quite a stir, with one girl fainting literally on top of the bonnet!
The young girl that unfortunately took a tumble was a pit girl at the races and was quite scantily clad (much to the dismay of many men watching that day) and so her dignity was not kept intact. Needless to say, a plethora of men ran over to the poor girl obviously, for quite obvious reasons.
It just proves the power of the high end sports car and how it can quite literally make a girl weak at the knees!!

Keeping mum?
Have you ever told a little white lie that you think could help but actually it does quite the opposite? A fair amount of people lie on their Insurance forms when they first start driving to help bring down the costs. The main way people do this is by saying that they are a secondary person on the insurance and say for instance their mum is the main driver. 9 out of 10 times, the parent will have a long period of no claims bonus to put forward meaning significantly lower costs. The problem with this practise (known as fronting) is that if caught out, you can be risking prosecution and insurance in the future will be even higher- is there any point?
When I started out driving on my 17th birthday, I got a car from my parents and they really helped me out with my costs, but the bonus of being a named driver with no claims for a long period of time means that my insurance is now very low- good news for me!! Yay!
I know this is probably very sad, but when I passed my test I had a thorough read of the motoring laws just so that I was fully clued up on what was acceptable when driving and what was not. After all, some acts were actually quite surprising and I wouldn’t have known that I was committing an offence! Scary really! But, that being said, there is nothing better than being clued up should something come up in the future...

Crash, bang wallop. £££.
This morning on my way to work, I was unfortunately subject to a bit of a bump into my rear end from another car quite obviously in a rush to get somewhere! To say it was a bad start to my Monday morning is an understatement, I was well and truly hacked off.
My poor little Ford Ka has taken a bit of a battering and will need a bit of a makeover to restore its natural beauty (Or so I think). To be honest, any work on my car would be an improvement! I have been searching online for Ford Parts companies that can custom fit my older version of the Ka and I was lucky to find one site that catered for all of the spare parts that I needed- Bingo.
I had a list of items, a wish list if you will for my Ka which I was happily going through but my bump will require a few more specific parts, like a replacement of my rear bumper and also protection foil to prevent any further scrapes. I am also going to invest in some Ford Door Sill Scuff Plates, just to neaten everything up around the vehicle. Unfortunately it is all money money money, but the website I have found features some great discounts.

My KAr for the day...
One car is not enough!!
The new Kia Forte is one to watch!! The sporty number for release this year is set to be a hit, with speculation that it is Kia’s best design to date, quite an achievement. With a fantastic design, which looks as good from every angle, the car draws inspiration from the Audi TT, which has proved a top player in the automotive industry from its release.
The commercial for the Kia Forte Koup is slick and stylish, with a simple concept- a young, handsome man driving around in the car (in two colours) with various women in the passenger seat with the slogan –‘2 is enough.’ The car gives off an air of sophistication and expense, with the placement of what appears to be Tiffany jewellery boxes set against a sexy backdrop of New York. The commercial, although slightly long, does not become tiresome with the car interesting to watch.
If you are looking for a sporty Kia model that does its job as well as looks the part, then await the arrival of the Kia Forte Koup as it promises not to disappoint... I just wish the car came with the guy in the commercial and what with the Kia Soul commercial giving away a free hamster with every purchase I don’t see why I shouldn’t get one either!! Take a look for yourself, at the car I mean.....

Hamsters take a lead roll for Kia
Hyundai Kia Automotive are giving the Kia Soul car another big push in the advertising stakes between its next product launch using its furry friends; the hamsters which were first seen in commercials last year.
The new commercial sees the hamsters driving around town in the car, blasting out lyrics to the 90’s classic “The Choice Is Yours” at any other hamsters not driving the car. The rodents, fully clad in tracksuits and ‘ghetto’ wear have caused such a stir that they have started their own clothes wear line aptly named ‘Hamstar.’ A classic marketing technique from Kia there!
Some car dealerships took to giving away a free hamster with every Kia Soul car purchase, capitalising on interest from the customers, who could not get enough of the little hamsters! Personally, I think the car would be enough, but there you go!
The Kia Sorento has been in the news recently, with marketing at its peak just before its release in February of this year, but now it seems the sporty SUV, the Kia Soul car has been given a chance to shine!
I think that there are so many benefits to the advert, with its young and hip feeling so notable, the brand can really open up to the younger demographic, not just the more mature audience. A winner all round I predict, but check it out here and let me know what you think!!

Sex and the City DO Mercedes

The eagerly anticipated release of Sex and the City 2 has arrived and it is taking the world by storm. It is enjoying success in the UK and in America and over the Memorial Day weekend in the US, the film ranked third in the Top Box Office ratings. Although third in ranking in the Box Office stakes, it is currently ranking first for Product placement, through its heavy use of high brow brands such as Hewlett Packard and Mercedes Benz.
Featured in the film is the Mercedes Maybach, which is discussed at length by the cast. This paid appearance in the film will be a massive advantage for the brand as the target audience for the film is so vast. Teenager’s right through to more senior members of the public will go to see the film and see the Mercedes cars advertised throughout, which will mean maximum exposure for Mercedes.
The iconic gang of four in the film are influential characters that people look to imitate, whether it is by wearing the clothes that they wear or owning the cars that they drive, so the use of product placement is extremely important. I myself am guilty of purchasing a pair of Jimmy Choo’s on the back of seeing them featured in the Television series a few years back, so I can understand with a bigger budget the things people would be prepared to buy!

Transformers Vs Vauxhall

The all new Vauxhall Ampera is awaiting release and after seeing pictures of the new model on the net I can’t help but think that there is a real connection between the new Ampera and Transformers the movie.
The new Vauxhall Ampera has a two tone colour scheme with the body kit in one colour and the front end bumper in another, which I think draws resemblance to that of the cars in the film. The new Vauxhall model is an extension of its already advanced Vauxhall cars available but with a sporty make-over. With faster speeds and more powerful engine, the new Vauxhall Ampera is alike the transformer models, fast and furious!!
Adverts really get me thinking...
I saw a fantastic advert online at the weekend for the Kia Sorento.
The advert revolves around 5 stuffed toys on the back seat of the 4x4 car that magically come to life and drive the car on a bit of a wild adventure, all the way to Monte Carlo and back. It shows the creatures dancing in a club, getting a tattoo and them taking part in a number of activities that they have fantasised about, but it ends with them waking up again on the back seat of the car.
The tagline is ‘A departure from the expected’ which I think is fantastic advertising for the car. I had never looked at the Kia Sorento before, but since watching the advert, I have wanted to know more!
Although I am not looking for a 4x4, but if I was it would be a strong contender. Take a look at the Kia Sorento advert and judge for yourself!
